  • Halma Gift of Sight Campaign to end Preventable Blindness Starts in the U.S. with Volk

Statistics show that preventable blindness is set to affect more than 115 million individuals by 2050, with 80% of global blindness being reversible or preventable through early diagnosis. As world leaders in eye health technology, our parent company, Halma plc, understands the critical need to raise awareness for the importance of maintaining good eye health through regular screening.

On October 11, 2018, designated as World Sight Day, Halma officially launched its Gift of Sight campaign focusing attention on the global issue of blindness and visual impairment. The campaign is a partnership with the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP), an international organization focused on eradicating preventable and curable blindness in underserved communities.

We were thrilled to host the first US pilot program for this initiative. On December 17, 2018, 71 Volk employees, and some family members, received free eye screenings at our facilities in Mentor, OH. Through these 20-minute exams, using Volk's Pictor Plus and sister company Keeler's Tonocare, trained Volk employees captured Visual Acuity, Fundus Images, and Intra-ocular pressure (IOP) for both eyes. Screenings also looked at Diabetic Retinopathy, and assessed the likelihood of Glaucoma.

Participating in this campaign brings our employees together for a common purpose while creating life-changing impact for our daily work. We are proud to be part of Halma who, through this campaign, showcases their dedication to us as employees ensuring we receive proper care, and serves our communities around the world. As Arjit Bansal, product manager, Volk, said: “On a humanitarian level it satisfies me – and it’s given me a great opportunity to test some of our products and see the real-life impact of what we are doing. I can see people getting screened and understanding more about their eye health, and I feel like the purpose that we started with has come to life. I am proud to be part of an organization that really cares about people.”

In conjunction with the employee eye screenings and awareness campaign, Halma plans to raise up to $200,000 for HCP. Gift of Sight will continue its screening events in 2019 across Halma locations worldwide.

  • “Volk Ophthalmic Lens Review” featured on EyeGuru.org

“By Residents, For Residents” is the motto of EyeGuru.org, providing essential information to ophthalmology residents, from Residency Essentials guides to Flashcard Decks. The site’s latest blog post, written by site co-founder Dr. David Xu, a second year ophthalmology resident at UCLA, tackles the common question many residents face: “Which lenses should I buy?” It’s an important one; lenses are a significant cost to newly minted ophthalmologists, so you want to invest in lenses with the utility, performance, and quality to last you for years to come.

In his post, David reviews several of our slit lamp lenses, BIO lenses, and gonio lenses, comparing the magnification, field of view, application, and ease of use for each type of lens, and recommending his preferred choices. He even breaks down key lens parameters in a handy comparison chart.

While we did provide loaner lenses for David’s evaluation, he did not receive any other benefit from Volk, and all views and opinions in his post are his own.

  • Best Fit Analysis Report Added to Volk’s Eye Check Handheld Ocular Measurement Device

Contact lens fitting supported with precise, personal measurements

Mentor, Ohio (September 8, 2015) – Volk Optical has expanded the capabilities of its Volk Eye Check portable ophthalmic exam tool, with the addition of a Best Fit Analysis Report to its Contact Lens (CL) Mode. Capable of a number of key measurements, the Volk Eye Check captures and fully automates the analysis and display of ocular characteristics for contact lens fitting and general diagnostics. The new Best Fit Analysis Report further improves first time fit rates for both standard and specialty lens patients.

    EyeCheckBestFitReleaseBlog

Volk Eye Check’s CL Mode provides the precise measurements becoming standard in contact lens fitting:

    • Horizontal Visible Iris Diameter (HVID) to instantly pinpoint the best fitting contact lens
    • Pupil diameter to enhance visual acuity in multifocal lens wearers
    • Sagittal depth to improve overall fit over traditional k-values alone

The newly added Best Fit Analysis Report makes the process of fitting CLs easier, saving valuable physician and fitting optician time.

Using Volk Eye Check measurements, Best Fit Analysis generates a patient-specific report, recommending the most appropriate lenses by brand and type. Best Fit Reports quickly identify patients suitable for specialty lenses, and increase first time fit rates. Practitioners are able to select the exact brand and dimensional specifications of the standard or specialty lenses required, without the need to browse online, flip through a long catalog, or communicate with the contact lens manufacturer. For more difficult and custom cases, the reports can be sent directly to contact lens manufacturers to aid in the fitting process. By precisely pinpointing the most appropriate lens for each patient, comfort based lens drop outs are reduced.

The Volk Eye Check’s touch-screen interface is easily navigated for seamless integration into the practice environment. Its real-time, accurate and objective results enable quick decision making and can be output to electronic records management systems with USB and WiFi connectivity. The Volk Eye Check comes with a one year warranty and ongoing software upgrade support.

The Best Fit Analysis Report subscription module is included free for one year on all newly purchased Volk Eye Check devices; a low monthly fee applies thereafter. To upgrade a previously purchased Volk Eye Check, contact a Volk representative. Volk is currently offering a free two-week trial of Volk Eye Check with Best Fit Analysis Report, complete with training and ongoing support.

For more information about Volk Eye Check’s Best Fit Analysis Report, and to request a free trial, visit www.volk.com, phone Volk direct at +1 440-942-6161, or contact your Authorized Volk Distributor.
